Our Standard of Care

“Standard of care” is defined as a diagnostic and treatment process that a veterinarian should follow for a certain type of patient, illness, or clinical circumstance. Legally and ethically, an acceptable “standard of care” states that a veterinarian should exercise professional learning, skill, and care, beginning with the initial contact with the animal, through the diagnosis of the problem, the decision and execution of treatment and the necessary follow-up care, with the same diligence that is reasonably expected of a veterinarian practicing under the same or similar circumstances. The idea behind this is that, with proper processes, checks, and testing, a desired outcome can be delivered with fewer problems and unforeseen complications.

Our standard of care focuses in part on preventing illness whenever possible. Our veterinarians work closely with our clients to formulate wellness programs specifically designed for each individual pet. These wellness programs include comprehensive yearly physical exams, internal parasite testing, heartworm and flea control, customized vaccine protocols, spaying and neutering, dental cleanings, diet recommendations and blood tests for all life stages.
On the other end of the spectrum, we also focus on maintaining quality of life for our elderly and declining patients. By combining conventional medicine with holistic options, we strive to ensure that your pet's last years are as happy, comfortable, and healthy as possible.

Veterinary medicine is a constantly changing field. As new information becomes available, updates in treatments, procedures, equipment, and the use of drugs becomes necessary. Our doctors and staff participate in continuing education by taking courses on the internet, studying written material, and listening to presentations from health care partners like Merial and Pfizer. We also work closely with local businesses such as Invisible Fence, to stay on top of current trends in pet ownership.
Unfortunately, universal patient care standards do not exist in veterinary medicine and not all veterinary practices are equal. At Compassionate Companion Care, the words “standard of care” go far beyond a simple dictionary definition. To our doctors and staff, standard of care means fostering a trust between ourselves and our clients. For us, it means treating your pets as if they were our own.
Standard of care doesn't end when our patients leave the clinic, though. We not only hold ourselves to high expectations, but our clients as well. Dedication to a pet is just as much the owner's responsibility as it is the veterinarian's.
